Challenge:
Delivery Truck Accident Leaves Main Receiving Door Inoperable
Finning Canada’s Calgary facility, a key hub for servicing and supplying equipment for mining, logging, and civil industries, faced a major safety and operational emergency when a delivery truck collided with the site’s 24' x 18' sectional overhead door. The impact knocked the door off its tracks and trapped the truck in the doorway. The damage left the door:
- Completely inoperable
- Unsecured and unstable
- Stuck on top of the truck itself
- In an unsafe position that risked further damage or injury
This was not just an inconvenience. The damaged receiving door threatened to halt operations, create serious safety hazards for staff, and expose the facility to costly downtime.
Solution:
Rapid Emergency Response from Door Systems
As a regular service partner for multiple Finning locations, Door Systems was called immediately. Despite the late hour, our team responded as an after-hours emergency call-out.
We were on-site within 1 hour. To safely clear the area, our technicians:
- Used chain hoists to raise the 24’ x 18’ polycarbonate-paneled TX450 sectional door off the truck
- Temporarily secured the door back into its tracks
- Stabilized the damaged structure to eliminate immediate safety risks
This required significant technical expertise, given the size and weight of the door and the unstable position it was left in after impact. Once the door was secured, materials for permanent repairs were ordered.
Within four business days, our team returned to:
- Replace the damaged sections
- Reinstall the unit back to factory-original condition
- Verify full operational and safety compliance
Result:
Operations Restored, Safety Protected
Door Systems’ emergency response ensured Finning avoided both extended downtime and potential injuries. By stabilizing the door and restoring functionality in under four hours, we prevented cascading problems that could have impacted safety, security, and daily operations.
Key outcomes included:
- Operations restored in under 4 hours from initial incident
- Receiving door safely secured the same night
- Facility kept safe, secure, and operational while awaiting parts
- Permanent repair completed within 4 business days
- Door restored to factory specifications with no lasting impact
The customer noted that if another service provider had been called, the response and repair could have taken significantly longer — especially without after-hours support.
